JAPANESE PRINTMAKING & MODERNIST ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION
SUMMER 2025 / BARTELS COLLECTION INTERNSHIP @ THE JOHNSON MUSEUM OF ART
Although modernist architecture is has a deeply rooted connection to Japanese printmaking as an art and practice, this legacy is often left out when talking about the development of modernist architecture. Tihis proposal for an exhibit at the Johnson Museum of Art marked the culmination of a 3 month research project during my internship as the Nancy H. Bartels '48 Scholar for Collections. The research for this exhibition included a trip to Los Angeles, where I visited the Getty Research Institute, Grunwald Center at the UCLA Hammer Museum, the MAK Center for Architecture, and the Gamble House.
